Lash Extension FAQ

Are Eyelash Extensions safe?

Currently the FDA does not regulate Eyelash Extensions because they are applied to the natural eyelash hairs and do not touch the skin (or SHOULD NOT). The application process is pain-free and relaxing that most clients fall asleep during the procedure. However, improper application by an unqualified eyelash technician can cause damage to your natural lashes. We recommend only using a Certified Eyelash Extension Specialist. Make sure to do your homework and only get your lashes done by a licensed Esthetician or Cosmetologist who has completed PROPER Lash Training/Certification. After all they are your eyes, you deserve the best!

Can anyone apply lash extensions?

Licensing varies State to State. Most reputable lash extension companies will only certify licensed beauty professionals. The States of MO, KS, OK & AR Board of Barbers and Cosmetology requires ALL individuals who apply eyelash extensions to be licensed Estheticians or Cosmetologists.

What can I expect?

We apply individual one-to-one lash extensions, no cluster lashes. We carry a variety of lengths, curvatures, thicknesses, and materials. Most of the lashes we carry are black, but fashion colors are available. A full set is generally a 2.5 hour appointment. After the initial consultation where we look at pictures, talk about your lashes and your desires, we’ll begin. A full set is roughly 80-120 lashes per eye, however we do not count lashes for pricing purposes, it is for informative purposes only. Please arrive without eye makeup. If you wear contacts, you will want to take them out before your appointment begins.

Can I wear mascara?

No. Wearing mascara will reduce the longevity of your extensions and you will need to schedule fills more often. We charge extra to clean out your lashes. You can wear mascara on the bottom lashes ONLY, however, you must remove all your eye makeup before you go to sleep because this is best for your skin AND your makeup will goop up the base of your extensions and cause your extensions to come off prematurely.

Can I still wear eye makeup?

Yes, but most clients don’t even feel the need to wear eye makeup…Just wake up and go! No more “raccoon eyes”, running, streaking, smudging, clumpy or flaking mascara. You can use eyeliner and eye shadows as usual, provided it is NOT waterproof or liquid, as these products will break down the adhesive. NO MASCARA, as this will break down the adhesive, clump up the extensions and cause your extensions to come off earlier than expected.

Are they waterproof?

Yes! You can shower and swim in them! It is advisable to wait at least 24 hours prior to wetting your extensions to allow the adhesive to cure. Extensions exposed to water too soon will cause the adhesive to hyper-polymerize (dry too quickly) making them brittle. No saunas or steam rooms, please.

How fast will I lose my lash extensions?

There are 2 ways that you lose lashes:

a.) The average person, whether they have lash extensions or not, loses 25-30% of their natural lashes in a 2-3 week period. So when your natural lash sheds, it takes the extension with it. It may feel like you are losing more natural lashes than normal. Probably not. You are just more aware of it. Your natural lash isn’t that big. We are adding 4-5mm to your lashes, as well as girth! You will see them, in the bathroom sink, on your pillowcase, etc. – it’s totally normal!
b.) The other way you lose lashes is through the breakdown of adhesive. This is usually from oil or from rubbing and touching the lashes. Be sure that your cleanser is oil-free, and no rubbing of the eyes! When clients have oily skin or seem to have some issues with keeping their extensions, we try to work with them to see what the problem is and how…

How do I prepare for my appointment?

Please arrive with your eyes free of any eye makeup and have your lashes freshly cleansed and rinsed free of any detergent. Avoid caffeine or stimulants a minimum of 5 hours prior to your appointment. Your eyes involuntarily move and stimulants will increase this action. For service, it is crucial we have a steady surface to work with to give you a quality result.

Go to the gym before, NOT AFTER, your lash appointment! We recommend waiting 24 hours before getting your lashes wet. Not waiting 24 hours may cause the adhesive to reactivate and clump the lashes together or worse, fall off your lashes faster. Remove your contacts before the service begins.

How many extensions are applied for each application?

We schedule appointments based on time rather than by counting lashes. We do not count how many eyelash extensions applied per eye, but if we were to estimate it would likely be between 80-120 lash extensions per eye (lpe) for Classic Eyelash Extensions. The number of extensions applied depends on how many natural lashes you have on each eye and the health and/or condition of your natural eyelashes. Everyone’s lashes are different and we meticulously isolate each individual healthy eyelash hair for one extension. Other factors include how many extensions you’ve kept on from our previous appointment, and how many natural lashes you have shed.

I have a special occasion, when should I get my lashes applied?

Please schedule your appointment 2 – 3 weeks prior to your event. By planning your appointment in advance, we will be able to accommodate any adjustments to the appearance of your lashes; including curl, length, volume or shape.

I’m had lashes applied by another lash artist, may I schedule a fill with you?

We love doing your lashes as much as you love your lashes. We strive to give you the best results for your dollar, and this can only be ensured by not going over another salon’s work.

If your current eyelash extensions are from another salon and/or you are past the 5-week mark between touch-up appointments, you will need to have your current extensions completely removed. The removal process is approximately 15-45 minutes depending on your current extensions. Our removal process is FREE of CHARGE when you schedule your new Full Set appointment at the same time. If you are in the unfortunate situation of having been a recipient of a eyelash extension disaster, we would love to help.
